Food Diary: Jordan, pt 2, and Egypt

Aqaba, Jordan:
One of the locals here recommended a great place for us to get lunch.
We had the most amazing Kebabs as well as what I referred to as a Jordanian Quesadilla (pita filled with ground lamb and spices).

Our seating was outside - the people (and camel!)- watching was very entertaining.
Notice the cell phone.

We went from Aqaba to Wadi Rum, Jordan, which means desert of the moon in Arabic.
It is a desert valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock in south Jordan less than an hour from Aqaba. We lived like the Bedouin people here, as we stayed in a tent
and ate food prepared for us by our local guide and his family.

We were greeted with chai tea and a gorgeous sunset.

Breakfast in the tent:

Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt:
We took a ferry from Aqaba to Egypt, where we spent two nights in this delightful vacation town on the Red Sea. We took a private boat ride to go snorkeling in the coral reefs (best
snorkeling ever!); our boat driver recommended a great restaurant for dinner. The fresh sea food here was AMAZING!

The markets here were full of baskets of richly-colored spices.

Cairo, Egypt:
Honestly, not impressed by the Egyptian cuisine. It was a little bland.
Fortunately, the sights made up for it.

We had cocktails and appetizers at the bar on the top floor of the Hyatt
on the Nile River. Gorgeous.
